Tribunal Uphold Senator Yayi’s Election, Declares Him Winner 2019 Senatorial Elections

The National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday affirmed and declared Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the February 23 Lagos West Senatorial constituency elections.

Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had filed a petition challenging the emerging victory of Adeola at the elections before the tribunal.

While delivering the judgment, the three-man tribunal, led by Justice Kunaza Hamidu, held that the petition filed by Rhodes-Vivour challenging the election failed as a result of the petitioner’s inability to establish a prima facie case against Adeola.

The tribunal held that the petitioner failed to provide evidence of all allegations raised against the election.

“The petitioner failed to show the exact scores as claimed thereby rubbishing their petition before the tribunal”

“The petition lacked merit and is hereby dismissed” The three-man panel declared.
In reaction, Senator Solomon Adeola dedicated his victory to his numerous constituents that voted for him, The Chairman Senate Committee on Finance said the judgement is yet another validation of the mandate of the people of Lagos West for him to continue his representation in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
“I want to thank all my constituents for believing in me and dedicate this victory at the tribunal to them wholly. Their faith in me has been further validated by the judiciary who rightly shied away from upturning the Democratic wishes of the people of Lagos West on spurious petition” the senator said in a statement.
Senator Adeola promised to continue to effectively represent the people of Lagos West adding that in a few weeks time he will undertake his first Next Level Town Hall Meeting and Empowerment of constituents as is his usual practice.
“The judiciary has once again risen up in defence of democratic rights of the people through its considered rulings on all the issues raised in the petition and it is another great day for democratic development and the rule of law” He said.
